I recently watched a documentary entitled Love, Marilyn and because of it, I fell in love with Marilyn Monroe. Hers is a tragic tale that has endured the years in large part because of her notoriety as a Hollywood icon. But there’s a side to her that this documentary revealed that made her more endearing to me as a person. She was an intellect, a businesswoman, a prolific writer, a thinker. She fervently consumed literature, and was reflective and introspective. What I found most heartbreaking about her story is the fact that she is remembered for none of this. In the worlds eyes, she was simply a beautiful face. That was both her making and her undoing; she knew she could give so much more. Sadly, she never got the chance.
