Year of Protest

Year of Protest

2016 was a strange and difficult year. The election was a hot mess. So much political and racial vitriol was spewed on multiple fronts. National and international divides were exposed, and the world was turned upside down.

All this created the backdrop to some of the most surprising and even inspiring protests I’ve ever witnessed. Black Lives Matter. Not My President, Women’s March, Standing Rock, The Fight for $15; all of these were examples of people who were discontent with being discontent rallying themselves to stand and fight for what they believe in.

This piece isn’t about a specific protest or group, but more about the deep seated issues within society. It’s a painting of not just one issue but all of the issues; an illustration of the power of the masses to effect change.
